Thunderstorms for the East, Flooding Rain for the Northwest


The eastern third of the US will see thunderstorms and rain for Thursday, while the Northwest will see spotty rain, mixed precipitation, and thunderstorms along the coast. Forecasters predict flooding rain for northern California.

Thunderstorms, rain for most of East

Thunderstorms are expected to stretch across the eastern third of the nation on Thursday, over much of theSouth, mid-South, Ohio Valley, and extending into the mid-Atlantic and parts of the Northeast, according to the forecast by the National Weather Service (NWS).

In the more northern regions, the rain will extend from New Jersey into Maine.

In the coastal areas of the Southeast, thunderstorms will be largely absent, except for some spotty rain across the Carolinas and Virginia. Thunderstorms are forecast around southern Florida and the western Panhandle, while the remainder of the state will be dry.

Flooding rain to N. Cal, mixed precipitation in Northwest

Flooding rain is forecast by the National Weather Service (NWS) for parts of the Northwest including Northern California and southwestern Oregon.

Thunderstorms are expected to extend along the Northwestern coast from Canada all the way down to Northern California.

Portions of the Northwest are likely to see some mixed precipitation through central Washington, central Oregon, and into Northern California, as well as east-central California.

Rain will be prevalent throughout the Northwest extending into parts of Nevada and Idaho.

Otherwise, most of the West will be dry.

Flash flood watch

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for parts of northern and north-central California extending to the Western Nevada border.

Storm outlook for remainder of US

In the Central US, thunderstorms are expected over the northern half of Texas into Oklahoma. Some thunderstorms could stretch into southeastern New Mexico.

Most of the West and the nation’s midsection will be dry.

Northwest: Rain is forecast throughout central and northern California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, western Montana, northwestern Nevada, northwestern Utah, and northwestern Wyoming.

Mixed precipitation is forecast for northern and northeastern California, central and eastern Oregon, central Washington, northern and central Idaho, western Montana, northwestern Nevada, and northwestern Wyoming.

Central US: Thunderstorms over eastern and northern Texas, most of Oklahoma, southeastern Kansas, southwestern Missouri, most of Arkansas, and northern Louisiana.

Southeast: Thunderstorms for portions of Florida, and the coasts of Georgia and the Carolinas.

Ohio Valley: Rain.

Mid-Atlantic: Rain.

Northeast: Rain over portions of New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
