Cold temps to bring falling iguanas in Southwest Florida

It’s that time of year when temperatures drop in Southwest Florida – and so do iguanas, NBC-2 reports. Any time temperatures fall below 50 degrees, the warmth-loving reptiles become lethargic. When temperatures dip below 45 degrees, the large lizards can actually fall from trees, becoming dormant until temperatures warm back up. If the cold persists for more than several hours, it can be life-threatening for iguanas. Southeast Florida has a larger population of iguanas than southwestern Florida.

Prescribed fire in Texas spreads beyond boundaries, forces evacuations

CNN reported that a prescribed fire and central Texas “spread beyond the intended fire boundaries,” officials said, forcing some residents to evacuate while crews battled the blaze overnight. As of Tuesday evening, The Rolling Pines Fire in Bastrop County sparked that morning, grew to 500 acres, and was only 10% contained, according to the Texas A&M Forest service. The fire is located roughly 30 miles southeast of Austin. On Tuesday, the National Weather Service had issued red flag alerts in northern Texas but not as far south as Austin.
