Excessive heat warning: southeast Washington; northeast Oregon; southern Idaho; northwestern Utah.

Heat advisory: southern and southeastern Idaho; central Utah; eastern Montana; central, southern and eastern Texas; southeastern Oklahoma; southern Missouri; northern and central Louisiana; eastern and southern Mississippi.

Flood warning: northern, northeastern and southeastern South Dakota; southwestern Minnesota; northwestern Iowa.

Heat is expected to continue over parts of the West and the southern US this week, while disturbed weather hanging over the northern Gulf will bring days of heavy rain with the potential of flooding to at least 8 southern states. Here is the latest 3-day weather forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS).

Wednesday: Severe weather in East; flooding rain over the Gulf, South, Southeast

Scattered thunderstorms over parts of the northern and southern Rockies into the Southwest, Central US, Ohio Valley, South, Southeast, mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Possible strong storms over central Montana.

In the East, strong thunderstorms will stretch from Tennessee to New Jersey. A Level 2 severe weather risk in the East over portions of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey, according to the latest forecast by the Storm Prediction Center (SPC).

Thunderstorms delivering heavy rain will bring the potential of flash flooding over portions of Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Thursday: Flooding rain over the Gulf, South, Southeast

Scattered thunderstorms over parts of the northern and southern Rockies into the Southwest, as well as the upper Midwest, along the southern corridor into the southeast and parts of the mid-Atlantic, as well as most of the Northeast.

A disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico will bring thunderstorms across the South and Southeast delivering heavy rain with the potential of flash flooding over Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

Scattered thunderstorms over parts of the northern and southern Rockies into the Southwest, as well as over the upper Midwest, Great Lakes regions and parts of the Ohio Valley.
