Snow in the West to continue through midweek

Snow in the West through midweek and potentially longer over portions of the Northwest, West, Southwest, and into the upper Midwest.

Snowfall will likely be heaviest and most widespread on Monday over parts of Montana, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota. Heavy snow is predicted over portions of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and North Dakota, according to the latest forecast by the National Weather Service (NWS).

A wintry mix is expected over portions of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. See the 3-day forecast below for snowfall for the remainder of the week.

South-central US and South could see severe weather

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued a Level 2 severe weather risk on Monday over southern central and eastern Texas, into southeastern Oklahoma, and over western Louisiana. Strong storms are also possible for western Mississippi, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, with thunderstorms stretching into parts of Alabama, Tennessee, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

Forecasters watching 2 disturbances in the Atlantic

Forecasters from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) are watching two disturbances in the Atlantic that could potentially move toward the US if they develop. “Disturbance 1” has a 40% chance of cyclone formation in the next 48 hours. The system is currently located 150 miles east-southeast of Bermuda. “Disturbance 2” in the southwestern Atlantic has a 20% chance of development in the next five days.

Monday: Snow in the West, severe weather central US, Northeast thunderstorms

Thunderstorms through the central US from the Great Lakes to the Gulf (see severe weather report above). Thunderstorms will also extend along the Atlantic from Virginia to Maine, bringing thunderstorms to the mid-Atlantic and throughout the Northeast.

Potential heavy rain with flash flooding over portions of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri.

Rain for portions of northern California, northern Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, and Washington.

Tuesday: Snow in the West, severe weather in the south

Scattered thunderstorms and rain for much of the eastern US. Thunderstorms in the South, mid-South, and southern Ohio Valley will bring the chance of severe weather over portions of Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and southwestern Tennessee.

Rain over parts of the Great Lakes region, Ohio Valley, mid-Atlantic, and Northeast. Rain in the upper Midwest over portions of the Dakotas and Minnesota.

Thunderstorms in the southeast over portions of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia.
